After School Bible Stories

She is 85.  Every week this dear woman and her husband place their two folding chairs under a tree in the large grassy area of their apartment complex.  Little children are invited to sit on a blanket to hear Trudy and Clarence tell a Bible story.

Most of these children from the apartments are unchurched.  This is the first time some of them have heard the story of Jesus and His love for them. It’s the first time they’ve heard about His miracles and His sinless life. They are learning that we are all sinners destined to be separated from God for all eternity,  unless we have a Savior. They learn that Jesus came to earth to be our Savior.

Sometimes Trudy and Clarence bring props and costumes so the children can act out a story from the Bible.  Often the parents come to watch and listen.  The story time takes less than an hour,  but every Friday after school the children come.

Mario is a young man from church who wants to learn to share his faith with confidence. He has begun helping them. They now alternate with one telling the story and another doing the review of last week’s story.  Story time with the kids has brought great joy to these precious saints.  They love the children. Moreover, the children love them!

  • Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”   Matthew 19:14
  • What do you think about this idea for reaching unchurched children?  Would it work where you live?

About Kathleen

God delights in working through His people as they submit to Him. Jesus said to go into all the world and preach the good news to everyone (Mark 16:15).

No matter where we live on this planet, people are separated from God because of sin. We ALL need a Savior, and there’s only ONE.

It brings me great joy to share Christ with the lost and lonely. Over the years I’ve learned a great deal while facilitating Bible studies. I’ve found myself on college and university campuses, the beach, the streets, the hospital, the jail and the juvenile facility for incarcerated teens sharing God’s message of love. I also serve as an online missionary with Global Media Outreach. I’ve seen countless lives transformed when people turn away from sin and turn to Jesus. The changes God makes are real and lasting. These are some of my experiences.

They have a great idea! They go where the people are, tell stories and are fun! You know it’s not unlike what Jesus did. He met folks where they were, told them entertaining and challenging stories, and was a joy to be around. (children aren’t drawn to people who aren’t approachable and fun!) Most churches could learn something from them! Thanks Kathleen!

Hi Kathleen, This is great – what this couple is doing. I teach children’s church once a month and I love looking into their eyes and communicating to them how much God cares for them. Thanks for sharing. Amy

Thanks for dropping by Amy! I agree. There’s such joy in teaching children. They too need the encouragement that God’s love and forgiveness brings.
