“How Can I Get God in My Life?”

One Sunday afternoon at the beach a man came to our Bible table and asked, “How can I get God in my life?”

I gave him the simple message of the Gospel:  “Jesus came to live a sinless life so He could then purchase our eternal salvation on the cross.  If you want God in your life,  you must recognize you are a sinner in need of salvation and then turn away from your sinful ways.

“Once you desire to turn from your sin and follow Jesus, He will then do three things:  forgive your sins, promise you eternal life in heaven and give you the Holy Spirit.  The Holy Spirit is that part of God that will come and live inside you. When He comes He will bring all the fruit of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness and self-control. You will get ALL of that when you receive the Holy Spirit.  You will just need to exercise it.  The Holy Spirit will become your new teacher and your comforter. Whenever you sin He will make you feel guilty–that is His job. You will want to confess your sin to God and turn away from sinning again.  Soon you will begin to notice changes the Holy Spirit is making in your life.  The peace is what I noticed first.  God even changed my way of thinking!”

He eagerly blurted: “That is what I want!”  He then prayed with us to receive Jesus.

Afterward he shared his story:  His wife had left him six weeks ago, taking the children.  He had become so depressed he was considering suicide.  Then last night a thought came to him:   “Perhaps I need God in my life!”  However, he didn’t know even one person who attended church, who could give him some counsel.

He checked his phone for local churches and discovered so many churches he was afraid he’d pick a bad one;  so he closed his phone and prayed for the first time:  “God, if  You’re out there, show me how to find You.”

“Then today I came down to the beach and there you were!”

We gave him a Bible and invited him to church.  What joy!

About Kathleen

God delights in working through His people as they submit to Him. Jesus said to go into all the world and preach the good news to everyone (Mark 16:15). No matter where we live on this planet, people are separated from God because of sin. We ALL need a Savior, and there’s only ONE. It brings me great joy to share Christ with the lost and lonely. Over the years I’ve learned a great deal while facilitating Bible studies. I’ve found myself on college and university campuses, the beach, the streets, the hospital, the jail and the juvenile facility for incarcerated teens sharing God’s message of love. I also serve as an online missionary with Global Media Outreach. I’ve seen countless lives transformed when people turn away from sin and turn to Jesus. The changes God makes are real and lasting. These are some of my experiences. NOTE: My stories have been altered, removing any and all identifying factors. What a beautifully simple way the Lord drew him.

It’s amazing how God answers prayer, isn’t it. When we are seeking Him with all our heart He does reveal Himself.
