We met a young man fishing on the pier alone. We visited for awhile before I offered him a good news booklet about Jesus.
He said, “Actually, I made Jesus my Lord and Savior two years ago! But I’ve stopped reading the Bible and going to church because I feel like a hypocrite whenever I fornicate or smoke weed.”
I said, “Jesus is NOT your Lord if you are continuing in your sin. When a person gives his life to Jesus, he changes. The Holy Spirit comes into his life and gives him the desire to please God and the power to obey God. But it sounds as if you don’t have the desire OR the power.”
Then he said he wanted to recommit his life “for real.” He said he felt God allowed him to meet us for a reason. “I know I need God in my life and I want to turn away from my sins.”
We prayed with him, that the Holy Spirit would fill and empower him. He seemed humbled and appreciative. He promised to return to church, and was happy to receive the new Bible we’d brought along.
Please pray for “J” that he can get into a men’s accountability group to help him stay strong.
