Keep Praying! Let’s See What God Does!

That day there were only two of us working the Bible table at the beach.  Josh is a tall, muscular young man, with a deep love for Christ.

We had just finished praying for a man who had asked for prayer.  A woman was browsing through our free Bibles and books, when two men approached. They were apparently homeless and intoxicated, intent on causing trouble. They began shouting, “Step right up folks! Get saved right here! This is the place to find Jesus!”

The woman browsing our books quickly walked away. Nobody else stopped at our table while the men were shouting—and they did not let up!  We were embarrassed. Humiliated! We tried reasoning with them quietly, but they’d argue and their voices would get louder.

Josh and I were praying. After a few minutes I quietly said, “Josh, why don’t we pack up and call it a day.”

“Not yet. Keep praying. Let’s see what God does.”

Against my better judgment, we remained and continued to quietly pray while the men continued their harassment.

Then suddenly, to our amazement,  they walked away!  The next thing I knew there was a crowd of people at our table, asking questions, requesting Bibles, asking for prayer, and asking how they could have their sins forgiven! What a fruitful afternoon!

We were certainly tested! Had I listened to my heart, I would have gone home at the beginning of their tirade.

Was it our prayers that protected us?
Was it our prayers that sent the men away?
Was it our prayers that brought a crowd of seekers to our table?
Perhaps all the above.

About Kathleen

God delights in working through His people as they submit to Him. Jesus said to go into all the world and preach the good news to everyone (Mark 16:15). No matter where we live on this planet, people are separated from God because of sin. We ALL need a Savior, and there’s only ONE. It brings me great joy to share Christ with the lost and lonely. Over the years I’ve learned a great deal while facilitating Bible studies. I’ve found myself on college and university campuses, the beach, the streets, the hospital, the jail and the juvenile facility for incarcerated teens sharing God’s message of love. I also serve as an online missionary with Global Media Outreach. I’ve seen countless lives transformed when people turn away from sin and turn to Jesus. The changes God makes are real and lasting. These are some of my experiences. NOTE: My stories have been altered, removing any and all identifying factors. 1. Kristi says:

    Amen Sister Christ Jesus-Yeshua Kathleen!!

    Love Always and Shalom,

    Kristi Ann

  2. Dixie says:

I think they saw something you didn’t…like a band of huge warrior angels standing behind you with swords in their hands…..bless you!!!

  3. Kathleen says:

What a wonderful thought, Dixie! Perhaps you’re right!

  4. Matthew says:

Great post! Made me think of how Satan’s biggest attempts to discourage us and cause us to give up will often come just before a big victory. Not giving up is so important, we never know when the victory is just around the corner.

    • Kathleen says:

I believe you’re correct, that Satan’s attempts to discourage often come before a victory. Indeed, it’s important keep trusting God and not give up. I appreciate your encouragement.

  5. Carol says:

That’s awesome! Sometimes just a little patience is all that is needed. We always think about what we want right now. That was great! Loved it! Carol

  6. Liana says:

We should praise God for those two homeless men and for their salvation. They opened the way ‘indirectly’ for the possible salvation of others through their loud behavior.

    • Kathleen says:

You are so right, Liana! They did open the way for the others. Although there was no indication they were saved, we do pray for their salvation as well.

  7. Frank says:

It’s good that when we don’t know what to do, we can go to the one who does. We can never go wrong with prayer. Prayer is one of our most potent weapons.

    • Kathleen says:

That’s a good way to look at it, Frank. It’s reassuring to know that it’s good when we don’t know what to do. Then we realize we DO know what to do. We can pray.

  8. Linda says:

It was definitely Satan attacking you and trying to discourage you so that you would not reach people for Christ. Praise God you persevered and held your ground. I too believe that God’s Holy angels were right there with you and distracted them from their tirade. Spiritual warfare is not something that we can visibly see, but it is real.

  9. Lynette says:

I truly believe in the power of prayer.

  10. Roy says:

I like this story because it shows you are human and not a super-Christian to whom people cannot relate. The Holy Spirit assists in our effort to serve King Jesus.
    GBY! Roy

  11. Louis says:

You ask and do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it on your pleasures.

  12. Frank King says:

That is a simple and powerful truth to experience. I sometimes wonder how often we give up or stop praying just before a breakthrough would have come had kept praying and believing.
