It’s 1 AM and I’m Lonely

Our young friend Rick was in his third year at the university.  It was 1 AM on a Saturday night when his phone rang.

“Hey Rick! It’s Michelle!  My roommate went home for the weekend and I’m feeling kinda lonely and scared being here alone. Just wondering if you’d like to come over and keep me company.”

“Wow! Uh… thank you, Michelle. Uh. You know, I really like you and I think you’re attractive and a really neat gal. But I need to tell that I made a decision to be a Christian and follow Jesus. Coming over at this hour of the night would put me in a compromising position. I hope you’ll understand.”

“Oh! I feel so stupid!  I’m sorry I called.  Just forget that I called, okay? Goodnight.”

What do you think about this true story?  Did Rick do the right thing?  How do you think he felt the next day when he saw Michelle in class?

About Kathleen

God delights in working through His people as they submit to Him. Jesus said to go into all the world and preach the good news to everyone (Mark 16:15). No matter where we live on this planet, people are separated from God because of sin. We ALL need a Savior, and there’s only ONE. It brings me great joy to share Christ with the lost and lonely. Over the years I’ve learned a great deal while facilitating Bible studies. I’ve found myself on college and university campuses, the beach, the streets, the hospital, the jail and the juvenile facility for incarcerated teens sharing God’s message of love. I also serve as an online missionary with Global Media Outreach. I’ve seen countless lives transformed when people turn away from sin and turn to Jesus. The changes God makes are real and lasting. These are some of my experiences. NOTE: My stories have been altered, removing any and all identifying factors. Thank you for this story! It gives me encouragement to know there are some who have the guts to resist temptation. SO MANY have fallen into that deadly trap (especially in our culture) and don’t seem to realize that it IS a death trap! (As seen in Proverbs 7: 1-27).
Lately I have been feeling discouraged and a little worried about some of our brethren who fall victim to women such as these. Some have the audacity to target young men in the church (baby Christians who are just beginning to grow in their faith; trying to take their first steps in the right direction) looking for a “good man” to mess up his life. Many of these young men become victims early in life. Many lack the courage to resist and turn away from that temptation. It takes guts for a fellow like Rick to push away and resist in a situation like that and stand by his faith. This story was VERY refreshing for me because I hear about the ones who did not resist and are led off. If you know Rick, please give him a pat on the back. This culture needs more STRONG Christian gentlemen like Rick who stand their ground. 🙂

Thank you for your encouraging comment. I agree, there are few young men with such strong convictions. But there are also just a few people who are true followers of Jesus. In Matthew 7:13-14 Jesus said, “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and ONLY A FEW FIND IT.”
