One November evening Alfred returned to his university apartment to discover one of his apartment-mates sitting on his bed. He was reading Alfred’s Bible!
Jeff had questions and they stayed up late discussing God and the Bible. Alfred then invited Jeff to come with him to InterVarsity Christian Fellowship. Two days later they went together. Jeff began attending Alfred’s small group Bible study and little by little Jeff’s life began to change.
At the end of the school year Alfred’s sister, also a member of IV, shared a story with me. She said at the last meeting of the year anyone who has experienced God in a profound way, can come up and share. Jeff came forward and spoke before 700 InterVarsity students.
He said, “Last November I was going through a severe depression. Yet I had one roommate who was different. He was happy and seemed to have it all together. One night when he was out I went into his room and discovered he had some Christian books and also a Bible. I was reading his Bible when he came in. We talked until late and that night he offered to pray with me and I felt encouraged.
Earlier that day I had decided the solution for my desperation was suicide. Alfred doesn’t know it, but he saved my life that night. I want to thank God for using my roommate to introduce me to Christ and to this Christian fellowship. This year I have found God’s purpose for my life, His peace and joy.”
- For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. Ephesians 2:10
- Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! 2 Corinthians 5:17
Thank you Lord for using Alfred in such a way that his life was a testimony and bringing another soul you have predestined into your kingdom.
Amen!
Wow! It’s amazing how God can work through people to reach the lost. I love seeing stories like this.
Dorothy, so do I! THIS is what makes life worth living!
I have worked with suicidal people and what you wrote really touched me, so important to do what we have to do and even bigger miracles happen, bigger than we have ever thought! keep going!!!!
Thank you, Dimitra. We never know what’s on the mind of another. We never know how our words might give hope and even change someone’s life.
