What IS a Bible, Anyway?

One day on the college campus a student walked by our Bible table and didn’t seem to notice us.  It was as if we were invisible.  He had passed our table when I did something I don’t usually do.  I yelled:  “Hey!”
He turned around and pointed to himself,  “Me?”

I said, “Yes!  Come on over and see what we have on our table.  We’re actually giving away free books and Bibles.”

He walked over and asked, “What IS a Bible, anyway?”

“The Bible is God’s Word. It’s the only book in the world that’s alive, powerful and completely true.  When you read it God will speak to your heart and give you direction and guidance.”

“Really? I did not know that.”

I said, “Before I became a Christian I didn’t know that either.”

He said, “Wait!  You mean this is a Christian book?  Then I’m not interested.” He turned and walked away.

Moments later he returned… “You know, I really should be more open.  So yes, I’ll take the Bible.”

I pointed to a building across the quad.  “Do you see that door over there? That room is where you’ll find a study in the book of John starting up in 10 minutes.”

“Really?  Do you have one of those?”

I said, “The book of John is part of the Bible.”

“Cool!”  I watched him walk over to the building, open the door and go inside.

About Kathleen

God delights in working through His people as they submit to Him. Jesus said to go into all the world and preach the good news to everyone (Mark 16:15). No matter where we live on this planet, people are separated from God because of sin. We ALL need a Savior, and there’s only ONE. It brings me great joy to share Christ with the lost and lonely. Over the years I’ve learned a great deal while facilitating Bible studies. I’ve found myself on college and university campuses, the beach, the streets, the hospital, the jail and the juvenile facility for incarcerated teens sharing God’s message of love. I also serve as an online missionary with Global Media Outreach. I’ve seen countless lives transformed when people turn away from sin and turn to Jesus. The changes God makes are real and lasting. These are some of my experiences. NOTE: My stories have been altered, removing any and all identifying factors. This includes names and other particulars in order to protect confidentiality and anonymity.

“How beautiful are the feet of those who bring glad tidings! {How welcome is the coming of those who preach the good news of His good things!]’ (Romans 10 15; Isaiah 52:7).
Thank you for sharing the testimony.

The witness as to the Bible is tremendous! We live in Belize and are going on the “Street” Saturday. This provided a great motivation. N. T.

N.T., I’m glad the Lord used this message to motivate you to take the Word out. May God bless you and give you a fruitful experience!

  4. George S says:

Yeah, Kathleen! She never quits. She is always ready for The Word! She is faithful and true to her calling and always has a word for the unbeliever. Yeah, Kathleen, we salute her today!

Wow! All around us there are people who don’t know the Lord Jesus, His words or what He did for us on Calvary. Sometimes we think most people know the truth in a predominantly Christian region, but maybe they don’t. “Christian” for many is just nominal, it’s not not a personal or faith thing. Thanks for sharing.

    • Kathleen says:

Edith, sadly, I believe that more and more, most people do NOT know the truth about Jesus–even in a predominantly Christian country.

  6. The simplicity of the gospel .. oh Kathleen, how you live and relate it. Praise God for prepared and receptive hearts.

Praise God! It’s so good that he chose to take the Bible. Though you gave it to him freely, it is a priceless treasure. We are so blessed to have the access to the Word of God that we do. Too bad, so many take it for granted.

    • Kathleen's Walk says:

I agree…it is sad reflection on our society today, that so many ignore God’s Word without appreciating what we’ve been given.
