A man with a thick accent called to say he was a computer support technician from Microsoft and my computer was badly infected.
I said, “I’ve heard from you guys before and I don’t believe you. My computer is fine. But I do have a question for you. If you were to die today, do you know where you’d go?”
He said, “I’d go to the heavens.”
“But what if God were to ask you, ‘Why should I let you into My heaven?’ What would say?”
“I’d say I am a good person because I help people fix their computers.”
I said, “I’m sure you have many good qualities, but nobody is good enough to get into heaven. We are all sinners and we all need a Savior. That is why Jesus came…to save us.”
There was silence for a moment. Then he hung up.
Hmm. Did I say something wrong? Was my message too strong? I hope he thinks about it and calls me back.
How many opportunities like this have I missed because I was too busy. There are so many annoying phone calls these days, mostly robocalls. But this one was live!
“Oh Lord, help me make time to speak to every live caller. Give me Your patience, Your wisdom, Your words every time the phone rings. Make me sensitive to the needs of others. I thank You in advance, for what You are going to do. In the precious name of Jesus I pray, Amen.”
- Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. Ephesians 5:15-16

I absolutely love this and can’t wait for the next call I haven’t been answering. I think I’ll also press 1 when it asks you to and can’t wait to talk to those IRS people that have been calling and calling, and yes that computer guy has called me too.
Debbie, I’m happy to have encouraged you to respond. After all, God is bringing these people into our homes. We need to use the opportunity to help them find Jesus.
Amen Sister Kathleen!
I bought a new computer several months ago!
Love, Cristy
You did? Good! So now you’ll know how to respond when the computer repairman calls!
Great idea! I will now know how to respond the next time I get a similar call.
Kathleen, you are right about missing calls and opportunities for Christ because we are too busy. I know that because of my ministry work load and the need to screen my calls so I can get my work done, I miss out on some of the opportunities like the one you mention in this post.
