Praying for the Gardener

We have had the same gardener for ten years and he is dear to us.  He often brings his two teenage sons to work with him.  They come for two hours twice a month.

Over the years I’ve shared the Lord with Jose a number of times.  He loves Jesus and has appreciated receiving The Jesus Movie in Spanish,  a Spanish New Testament,  numerous tracts, booklets and books for himself and his family.  When he went to visit his family in Mexico,  I was able to supply him with Christian literature in Spanish to share.  He said his parents were grateful.

A few months ago he started having back problems and his sons would do the heavy work for him.  One day I noticed him bent over as if in pain and I had an idea.  Although I felt somewhat awkward, I did something I’ve never done before.

I poured a little bit of olive oil in a small dish and took it outside.  I called Jose and his son over and asked him if he would like me to pray for him.  He did.  I told him I had some oil to anoint him as we are told to do in the Bible.  Jose placed his finger in the oil and put a little on his forehead.  His son and I both placed our hands on his shoulders and I prayed aloud.

It was a short prayer, that God would strengthen his back, relieve the pain and heal him, that God would give his doctor wisdom to know the best treatment and care for Jose, that God would bless him and his entire family as they trust  in Him.  I ended the prayer in the power of Jesus’ name.

That was it.  Jose and his son went back to work. That was two months ago. Today Jose is better and continues to work. Is he healed?  Not completely, but his back has improved and he is being careful.  I am continuing to pray for him.  God is good.

About Kathleen

God delights in working through His people as they submit to Him. Jesus said to go into all the world and preach the good news to everyone (Mark 16:15). No matter where we live on this planet, people are separated from God because of sin. We ALL need a Savior, and there’s only ONE. It brings me great joy to share Christ with the lost and lonely. Over the years I’ve learned a great deal while facilitating Bible studies. I’ve found myself on college and university campuses, the beach, the streets, the hospital, the jail and the juvenile facility for incarcerated teens sharing God’s message of love. I also serve as an online missionary with Global Media Outreach. I’ve seen countless lives transformed when people turn away from sin and turn to Jesus. The changes God makes are real and lasting. These are some of my experiences. NOTE: My stories have been altered, removing any and all identifying factors.
