It’s BAD!

I was standing near the jewelry counter when a young man called out to his friend,  “Hey! Come and look at this watch!  It’s BAD!”

His friend hurried to look. He agreed it was a “bad” watch!

I was curious. What is a bad watch? I stretched my neck to look, but I didn’t see anything bad about it—in fact, it was beautiful!

I said, “Excuse me. May I ask you a question?”  He nodded.
“When you said the watch looked bad, did you really mean it looked good?”

He chuckled, “Yeah, that’s what I meant.”

I said, “You know it reminds me of something I read in the Bible—about people who call good bad and bad good.”

He said, “Hey!  Someone else told me that!  He said it is supposed to happen in the last days.  So do you think we’re in the last days?”

“I don’t know, but it seems the world is getting more and more corrupt.  I don’t believe this world will ever be ruled with perfect goodness until Jesus Christ returns and He rules.

He said, “You could be right.”

I walked away missing an opportunity. Why didn’t I continue the conversation?  Why didn’t I say, “When Jesus returns, will you be ready to meet Him?”  In my purse I was carrying the booklet, Would You Like To Know God Personally?  by Dr. Bill Bright.  Why didn’t I offer it to him?  I started out with boldness.  Why did I suddenly become timid?

“Forgive me, Lord, for missing an opportunity that You had clearly placed before me.  Don’t allow me to repeat this mistake.”

About Kathleen

God delights in working through His people as they submit to Him. Jesus said to go into all the world and preach the good news to everyone (Mark 16:15). No matter where we live on this planet, people are separated from God because of sin. We ALL need a Savior, and there’s only ONE. It brings me great joy to share Christ with the lost and lonely. Over the years I’ve learned a great deal while facilitating Bible studies. I’ve found myself on college and university campuses, the beach, the streets, the hospital, the jail and the juvenile facility for incarcerated teens sharing God’s message of love. I also serve as an online missionary with Global Media Outreach. I’ve seen countless lives transformed when people turn away from sin and turn to Jesus. The changes God makes are real and lasting. These are some of my experiences. NOTE: My stories have been altered, removing any and all identifying factors. That was a very interesting encounter with the two young men and such an opportunity to share Christ. The fact that you regret not saying more may be an indication that next time it won’t be repeated. I want to remember Isaiah 5:20. Thanks Kathleen

On the other hand, the fact that you did not feel compelled to continue the conversation could have been the Holy Spirit putting the brakes on, and what you did say may be something he is mulling over and God is preparing him for another encounter. God is also using this experience to spur you on to more boldness, but no word spoken about Him is without merit.

Kathleen, I don’t know the answers to your questions. But been there, done that. Nevertheless, I believe that kind of introspection with regard to the things we do for the Lord is always a good thing. It is a reflection of our heart for God.
