Spider Web

As an online missionary with Godlife.com, I have several people in other countries who are doing an online Bible study with me.  One recently wrote the following:

“Please, can you help me?  I need some direction on this issue:  There is a spider web which crosses my path hitting me in the face most evenings.  After this happens I notice I will have a bad day.  I will produce bad work when I am at my training institution.  I need some direction on this issue.”

I prayed and then responded:  “Dear RT,  I believe what you are experiencing could be a perfectly innocent spider trying to make a web in the very place where you walk every evening.  Some people become superstitious about things like this.  Satan delights in causing fear in these kinds of situations.  He will use this and may even cause bad things to happen, especially if we begin to expect it.

I suggest the next time this happens that you speak to Satan in a loud voice.  You might simply say, “Satan, I demand in the name of Jesus Christ, that you stop trying to put fear in me.  Jesus is Lord of all!  You have no power over me!  Get behind me, Satan!”  Then begin praising Jesus Christ.  There is power in praising Jesus.  Acts 4:12 says, “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.”

So remember RT,  Jesus will save you, even from the spider web and any bad luck that comes from it.  This is simply Satan trying to frighten you. Have none of it!

He responded, “Dear Kathleen, Your letter was a motivational tool for me and for every Christian. Thanks a lot.  By the way, it happened again.  But this time I spoke aloud using this verse:  Romans 8:31. ‘If God is for me nothing can stand against me in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth!’  Then I began singing praises to God.”

Wow!  Thank YOU, LORD, for giving me Your wisdom and direction to put this young man’s mind at ease.  Thank You for showing RT how to appropriate Your Word in His life.

  • When we praise God, evil will flee.   God will fight our battles for us.  In the story of Jehoshaphat,  God miraculously defeats the enemy, because the people were praising Him:    As they began to sing and praise, the Lord set ambushes against the men of  Ammon and Moab and Mount Seir who were invading Judah, and they were defeated.   2 Chronicles 20:22

About Kathleen

God delights in working through His people as they submit to Him. Jesus said to go into all the world and preach the good news to everyone (Mark 16:15). No matter where we live on this planet, people are separated from God because of sin. We ALL need a Savior, and there’s only ONE. It brings me great joy to share Christ with the lost and lonely. Over the years I’ve learned a great deal while facilitating Bible studies. I’ve found myself on college and university campuses, the beach, the streets, the hospital, the jail and the juvenile facility for incarcerated teens sharing God’s message of love. I also serve as an online missionary with Global Media Outreach. I’ve seen countless lives transformed when people turn away from sin and turn to Jesus. The changes God makes are real and lasting. These are some of my experiences. NOTE: My stories have been altered, removing any and all identifying factors. Thank you so much for sharing this story of your Bible study student and how the Lord worked through you to help them see how Satan works through so many things in our lives to deceive us if we are not relying in faith and study on our Lord. God Bless.

This is so true, Florence. Satan is alive and well and comes to instill fear, steal our peace and destroy our faith in God. Thank you for stopping by!

What happened in your blog entry is so so true and reminds me of an old struggle that I use to have. As a child and until around 20 I would wake up in the middle of the night, look at the ceiling and it would be covered in giant spiders. I knew it couldn’t be real so I would blink several times but they would still be there. So I would jump out of bed and turn the light on. This would make them disappear. I always knew they were not real, but it was quite a fright when I would wake up to that sight.

As I was growing in my faith as a young adult and learning all God’s promises and how Jesus’ blood covers me I finally used this knowledge one night. I woke up, saw the spiders, blinked a few times, they were still there so I rebuked the devil in Jesus name and told him he had no right or power to do that to me and to just get out! The spiders disappeared from my ceiling, and I never had to jump up to turn on the light again. I praised God and went back to sleep! I think it may have happened one or two more times, I did the same thing, and then that was it. Done! Never happened again.

God is mighty to pull down strongholds of the enemy! Amen!

Thought you would like hearing about this.

  3. Blessings, Kathleen! I read this post at just the right time. The Lord used it (as he has other venues in the past) to confirm my Sunday sermon. What an incredible story of spiritual authority! Something many believers read about but seldom experience. BTW, the title of my message is, “Yes, Devil, I’m talking to you!” Oh, and I think this spider web story has inspired another sermon in my heart. 😉 Thanks again, dear sister. May the Lord continue to use you. Keep shining the light of Jesus!
