Cursing Girls Respond to God

Five incarcerated teenage girls walked into Bible study cursing and acting disrespectful.

I smiled, picked up my guitar and began playing.  They picked up the song sheets and slowly began singing along—songs of praise and worship.

A few minutes later I opened my Bible.  The rudeness had ceased. They had questions and hung on my answers. By the end of the hour, all five said they wanted to turn their lives around.  Each girl said she wanted to receive Jesus. Their attitudes had softened.  They became polite and respectful—really sweet, precious girls.

We ended with a couple more songs. They asked if they could keep the song sheets.  I asked a deputy if she would make copies, and she did.  As we were saying goodbye, one of the girls asked if I’d pray with her privately for a personal issue.

I returned home rejoicing and praising God, thanking Him for allowing me to see the transformation in their attitudes in such a short time.

What made the difference?  Was it the worship of God in song? Was it God’s Word?  Was it the prayer? Perhaps all of the above!

God really does change lives!

About Kathleen

God delights in working through His people as they submit to Him. Jesus said to go into all the world and preach the good news to everyone (Mark 16:15). No matter where we live on this planet, people are separated from God because of sin. We ALL need a Savior, and there’s only ONE. It brings me great joy to share Christ with the lost and lonely. Over the years I’ve learned a great deal while facilitating Bible studies. I’ve found myself on college and university campuses, the beach, the streets, the hospital, the jail and the juvenile facility for incarcerated teens sharing God’s message of love. I also serve as an online missionary with Global Media Outreach. I’ve seen countless lives transformed when people turn away from sin and turn to Jesus. The changes God makes are real and lasting. These are some of my experiences. NOTE: My stories have been altered, removing any and all identifying factors. Beautiful, simple child-like faith drawn toward the love of God through the fruit of the Holy Spirit in you.

Hi Kathleen, I believe it was the way you responded to the girls. Your spirit of love and the presence of the Holy Spirit. The other factors never would have had an influence if it weren’t for your additude.

Great blog! The power of Gods word (spoken/sung) is truly amazing!
