Another precious memory:
The boys at the juvenile hall were painting decorations for an art competition. I was disappointed to see Juan back again. When he saw me he said he couldn’t stop painting or he’d fall behind. A few seconds later he was seated in my class saying, “Bible study is more important!”
I know Juan. He’s been incarcerated over a dozen times. It won’t be long before he turns 18. I said, “Next time you probably won’t be coming here. Once you turn 18 you’ll most likely be sent to county jail.”
He said, “There won’t be a next time! When I gave my life to Jesus six months ago, it was real. I’m not the same person I was before! My parents were happy to see the change in me–but I made one foolish mistake and now I’m back—but just for a short time.”
He told me he believes God wanted him here one last time for a reason. “I want to learn how to share God’s love with others. I’ve been reading the Bible and there is still much to learn.”
One guy in the group had doubts about God. It delighted me to watch Juan encourage him: “Jesus is real! He really does change lives!”
Precious Juan loves God and I believe God has big plans for him.
Oh! The guy with the doubts? Not anymore! It was quite a night!
