First Kiss on Wedding Day?

I sometimes ask the incarcerated minors in my Bible study, “Is it easy to allow Jesus Christ to be Number One in your life?  Is it easy to make Him your Lord?”

They’ll typically answer, “Yeah, it’s easy.”

Then I tell them this true story:

Andrew was 28-years-old when he met the Lord Jesus Christ. He wanted to give his life to Jesus but he had an unsavory lifestyle. His desire for women and his addiction to porn were pulling at him. He recognized that porn had made him mean and cruel. He knew he needed help, so he made the decision to surrender his life to Jesus. He claims it was the best decision of his life!

He began attending a Bible study and church. That’s where he met Mary,  a godly young woman with a past—a former prostitute!  She met Jesus Christ and exchanged her lifestyle for clean living, church and Bible study.  Andrew and Mary dated for two years before they married.

“During those two years he said he did not touch her. He did not hold her hand or put his arm around her. Their first kiss was on their wedding day.  Why?

“She had had men. He had had women. They both knew where touch would lead. They wanted to honor God with their lives.  The ‘no touch rule’ made it easier to obey God.

“They have now been married eight years, have two small children and are serving God. They claim they are more in love now than when they first married.”

Back to the teens at the juvenile facility:

“You have heard the story. Let me ask you again: Is it easy to make Jesus Christ Lord of your life?”

This time their response was, “No.”

“You’re right. It is not easy.  But is the reward worth it?  Yes! God always blesses us when we are obedient.”

  • Those who honor me I will honor…     I Samuel 2:30.
  • Oh, that their hearts would be inclined to fear me and keep all my commands always, so that it might go well with them and their children forever!    Deuteronomy 5:29
  • See, I am setting before you today a blessing and a curse— the blessing if you obey the commands of the Lord your God that I am giving you today; the curse if you disobey the commands of the Lord your God…     Deuteronomy 11:26-28

About Kathleen

God delights in working through His people as they submit to Him. Jesus said to go into all the world and preach the good news to everyone (Mark 16:15). No matter where we live on this planet, people are separated from God because of sin. We ALL need a Savior, and there’s only ONE. It brings me great joy to share Christ with the lost and lonely. Over the years I’ve learned a great deal while facilitating Bible studies. I’ve found myself on college and university campuses, the beach, the streets, the hospital, the jail and the juvenile facility for incarcerated teens sharing God’s message of love. I also serve as an online missionary with Global Media Outreach. I’ve seen countless lives transformed when people turn away from sin and turn to Jesus. The changes God makes are real and lasting. These are some of my experiences. NOTE: My stories have been altered, removing any and all identifying factors. This includes names and other particulars in order to protect confidentiality and anonymity.

What an inspiration this couple is! It isn’t easy to follow Jesus–but the rewards are worth more than anything else!

The no touch rule is very difficult to follow Kathleen. I admire the strength of those who can. What a testimony they are!

Thanks for sharing this reminder that it is possible to abstain!
