“I’m Bisexual”

As an online missionary for Global Media Outreach, I’ve been mentoring 20-year-old Mary  from the Philippines for several months.  Recently, she admitted something new: “Even though I’m a Christian, I need to tell you that I’m bisexual. I’ve never had a sexual relationship with a male or female, but I’m attracted to both men and women.  What should I do?”

I prayerfully responded, “You say you are bisexual.  That means you are both. That means it should not be too difficult for you to eliminate the type of relationship that offends God and cling to the one that honors God.

“In Romans 1:21-28  we read that God considers it sin when two people of the same sex engage in sexual activity.  Sex is only to be expressed between a man and a woman who are married to each other. That is the way God designed it.

“The Bible tells us to wait until marriage for sex.  The Bible has not changed. God has not changed. Read Revelation 21: 8 and see what happens to those who are sexually immoral.

“Mary, you are a follower of Jesus. That means you have received the Holy Spirit and all the fruit of the Spirit as found in Galatians 5:22-23: ‘But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.’  You have received ALL of that, not some of it.  That even means you have self-control–you just need to exercise it!

“God will help you do the right thing. Obedience to God is not always easy. But God rewards us when we obey. You have started down the correct path by asking for help. This is a good beginning. You may have to distance yourself from any girlfriend you find yourself attracted to.

“Please be careful what movies you watch. Much is not good and can cause unnecessary sexual arousal and confusion. Do not look at any type of pornography. Porn is addicting, progressive and destructive. It can also lead to sexual confusion.

“In 1 Corinthians 6: 9-11 it says,  ‘Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.’

“What this means Mary, is that even 2000 years ago when these words were penned, it didn’t matter which sins people were involved in. When they surrendered their lives to Jesus Christ they changed. The Holy Spirit began to indwell them and gave them the desire to change and also the power to change.  He is still doing that today.

“Godlife.com  has a specialty group of online volunteers who are experienced in answering questions about same sex attractions.  Please let me know if you would like to share your struggles with one of them and I will gladly put you in touch with someone.  There are also many websites where you can read testimonies of former homosexuals.  Go to http://ex-gaytruth.com/ex-gay-testimonies/ .”

I closed by writing out a prayer for Mary:  “… fill her anew with Your Holy Spirit so she will have the power to do the right thing.  Give her Your patience to wait until You provide a godly man for her, so they can honor You with their lives together.  I pray in the strong name of Jesus, Amen.”

  •  But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars—they will be consigned to the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.    Revelation 21:8

About Kathleen

God delights in working through His people as they submit to Him. Jesus said to go into all the world and preach the good news to everyone (Mark 16:15). No matter where we live on this planet, people are separated from God because of sin. We ALL need a Savior, and there’s only ONE. It brings me great joy to share Christ with the lost and lonely. Over the years I’ve learned a great deal while facilitating Bible studies. I’ve found myself on college and university campuses, the beach, the streets, the hospital, the jail and the juvenile facility for incarcerated teens sharing God’s message of love. I also serve as an online missionary with Global Media Outreach. I’ve seen countless lives transformed when people turn away from sin and turn to Jesus. The changes God makes are real and lasting. These are some of my experiences. NOTE: My stories have been altered, removing any and all identifying factors. This includes names and other particulars in order to protect confidentiality and anonymity.

Oh Kathleen, your words are straight from Heaven! There are so many of us who fumble around for the right thing to say, sometimes sounding harsh, sometimes just weak. You have laid out the truth with such wisdom and love. The encompassing love, that’s what struck me most about your blog. The understanding yet firm, honest, non-threatening way you presented these Truths is amazing! Absolutely Beautiful!

I remember sharing these scriptures with my Mom when I was a young Christian. She was shocked and horrified because she had no idea those things were in the Bible, much less the New Testament. She had never heard it preached on, and she had only read parts of the Bible. So many people are either unaware or deceived about God’s ideas. Oh Kathleen, you should have a radio or tv show!

    • Kathleen says:

Dear Carol, Thank you for your kind words. I prayed before responding and truly I believe God gave me His message. I trust it helps many.

    • Kotie says:

Carol and your words to Kathleen and way of encouraging is straight from heaven!! xxx

  2. David says:

Kathleen, Your response was right on! The Bible is our instruction manual as Christians. It was not your opinion but God’s plan for a good Christian life. Satan has worked very hard to make this lifestyle okay. The people that buy into this lie of Satan’s are good people but their actions are against God’s will. Thank you for your biblical response.

  3. Lezlie says:

This was a wonderful post. I love your blog!

  4. Gina says:

You laid it all down accurately Kathleen. Thanks. I’m going to show this to our youth pastor and see if he wants to share it with our youth group at some point. The kids nowadays deal with this issue everyday in the world.

  5. JoAnne says:

Thank you Kathleen for speaking the truth. The Bible is truly the “sword of the Spirit” and as believers we need to base our beliefs totally upon God’s truth, and not that of the world. Unfortunately, even we as believers have often “relaxed” our own application of life standards and acceptance of immoral life styles, because we have become influenced by those around us, and the media. This is a good reminder for us to stand firm upon the scriptures. Thank you for sharing.

    • Kathleen says:

Dear JoAnne, I agree that both the world’s standards and the media have contributed to believers relaxing their principles. There is no other Truth outside God’s Word and we need to cling to it.

  6. Earl says:

    Sister Kathleen,
I want to thank you for your kindness in putting this information out about sex. It is important for people to know the truth that they cannot live life the way they want, but they must obey God. Great teaching about not living an immoral life sexually.

    • Kathleen says:

Thanks for your encouragement, Earl! If we love God, then we will obey God. Obedience is not always easy, but God rewards us with great joy when we obey. John 14:15 says, “If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.”

  7. Helene says:

Kathleen, there is nothing more than I can add to all these comments but my Amen. Your advice has come straight from scripture and is not welcome in this world. We all struggle with temptations of different kinds and have to keep coming to the blood of Jesus to find the way of escape, which is promised in 1. Cor. 10:13. May Mary occupy her mind with the precious promises in God’s Word and count herself dead unto sin. I thank God so much that we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ, the righteous who intercedes for us.

    • Kathleen says:

Dear Helene, Thank you for your beautiful words! I agree, we ALL struggle with different kinds of temptations and need to keep coming to the blood of Jesus to find our way of escape.

  8. Susan L says:

Kathleen, I too believe God gave you this message. It is in His Word, which is the truth. Our problems today are not much different that those of 2000 years ago. The media just makes it seem worse. There has always been temptation, along with peer pressure. Keeping our eyes on Jesus and being obedient to God is the true path to true joy. I will pray for Mary, that she seeks God for the strength to overcome this trial.

  9. Kotie says:

    Spot on Kathleen!

It is so wonderful to work Truth into peoples lives. So many believe the lie
of being homo- or bisexual. They have to go and search for the reason why they believe this. Somewhere in their backgrouns and perceptions, they they have been deceived and started believing this lie……….the same deception of Adam and Eve. ” you will be like God” or ” God made you this way” or ” if it is love you feel, then it is good, because God is all about love”

    Thanx for sharing!!

    • Kathleen says:

Dear Kotie, Thank you for your encouragement. There is much confusion and deception in the world today. Knowing Truth brings peace and confidence.

  10. Carol says:

Brilliant. God has given you a gift with words.

  11. Kotie says:

    Dear Kathleen,
You mean a lot to Mary….you did a wonderful job to make things clear for her from our Christian point of reference. If it is okay with you I want to copy and paste your answer in my templates…..I will refer to your blog also. Let me know please.

I have written a book on behalf of a friend about her mindset that changed after she “discovered God” for real through prayer and dreams that He gave her. She thought for 30 years that she was gay and wasted her youth away, but the way she found truth through prayer makes me cry every time I read through that particular chapter. She died in 2012 and I have not made much of the book yet because her family feels sensitive about it all. The book is called “New Song” and my writers name is Nem Hiaba. The book is on Wattpad.com.
