I was having a discussion with an older Jewish gentleman who was studying the Torah.
He said, “I know you’re a student of the Bible. But did you know the word for God in the Bible is Elohim—and that word in Hebrew is plural?”
“Really? Wow! I’m glad to know that! That explains the verses in Genesis 1 where God said, “Let us make man in our image…so God made man in His own image.” The Scripture there changes from plural to singular. I’d say that’s one more example of the Trinity: the Father, Son and Holy Spirit working together in creation.”
He said, “No, No! We believe that refers to the angels that helped God create man.”
“What? But angels are created beings! God didn’t need angels to help Him create man! He could simply speak us into existence! Besides, Scripture tells us we were made in the image of God, not in the image of God and angels. I’m afraid, my friend, I must respectfully disagree with you here.”
He smiled and nodded.
I smiled back.
- Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.” So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. Genesis 1:26-27

This life is temporary. This life is short. When this life is over, our bodies will die and become empty shells, but our souls will continue to live forever. Where will the “real you” live? Amen Kathleen. I agree. Hope you were able to plant the “seed” in his heart.
Thank you Florence. It was more like scattering seed, rather than planting it. Hopefully the soil was fertile.
Amen Kathleen!
Bless All who STAND with Israel-Yisrael and our Judeo-Christian nation.

Thank you Kristy. Glad you stopped by!
Yes, the Jews believe that God was having a discussion with the angels when He said, “Let us…..”. I guess you need to have some explanation as to what the ‘us’ means. The word also appears in Psalm 8:5, where it is translated as ‘angels’, “For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour.” So the verse is actually saying that we were made a little lower than God. We are made in God’s image, we are not lower than the angels.
Matthew, Who were the “us?” I believe God the Father was having a conversation with the Trinity: the Son and the Holy Spirit.
Kathleen, that was interesting conversation. I agree with you. It’s so easy to read a verse like that without giving much thought to it’s implications.
Thank you, Frank! Appreciate your encouragement!
Yay you for having the courage of your convictions. Glad I came over!
Glad you stopped by, Susan! I appreciate your encouragement.
Hi,
I so agree with you on that as I had a similar topic on the plural form of Elohim. The plural of God is Father, Son and Holy Spirit. As Jesus said” Me and the Father are one. ” and ” I will send you the Comforter who will guide you.”
Yours in service until He returns
Lee
Thank you, Lee. Yes, the Trinity is solidly supported throughout Scripture.
