I was having a discussion with an older Jewish gentleman who was studying the Torah.
He said, “I know you’re a student of the Bible. But did you know the word for God in the Bible is Elohim—and that word in Hebrew is plural?”
“Really? Wow! I’m glad to know that! That explains the verses in Genesis 1 where God said, “Let us make man in our image…so God made man in His own image.” The Scripture there changes from plural to singular. I’d say that’s one more example of the Trinity: the Father, Son and Holy Spirit working together in creation.”
He said, “No, No! We believe that refers to the angels that helped God create man.”
“What? But angels are created beings! God didn’t need angels to help Him create man! He could simply speak us into existence! Besides, Scripture tells us we were made in the image of God, not in the image of God and angels. I’m afraid, my friend, I must respectfully disagree with you here.”
He smiled and nodded.
I smiled back.
- Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.” So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. Genesis 1:26-27

This life is temporary. This life is short. When this life is over, our bodies will die and become empty shells, but our souls will continue to live forever. Where will the “real you” live? Will you live for all eternity separated from God? Or will you spend eternity in the presence of God in heaven?
