Muslim with a Gun

I attended a seminar on the beliefs and practices of Islam by Rev. Mateen Elass, Ph.D.  It was held in a local church and widely advertised.

Upon arriving at the church, I was surprised to see a security guard at the entrance.  There was a gun in his holster and he wore a bullet-proof vest.  Hmm.  Has it come to this?

I decided to get acquainted with the guard during the break.   I learned he was from the Middle East and indeed, was a Muslim–a Muslim with a gun!   Oh dear!  The thought crossed my mind:  Fox?  Hen-house?

Later I noticed that while standing guard at the entrance, he was also listening to the presentation!  When it was time for lunch, I drove home to quickly grab a DVD of the Jesus Movie in his language.  When I returned I presented it to him explaining it was about the life of Jesus.

He seemed overjoyed!  “I have always known that Jesus is important, but I’ve never known much about His life.  Thank you.  I am happy to receive this.”

The seminar was most informative ending with an emphasis on ways to demonstrate love to our Muslim neighbors.  Dr. Elass is the author of several books, including Understanding the Koran and The Teachings of Jesus and Mohammad. You may read his blog at: https://mateenelass.wordpress.com/about/

Please pray for the young security guard, that he will soon come to know and love Jesus.

About Kathleen

God delights in working through His people as they submit to Him. Jesus said to go into all the world and preach the good news to everyone (Mark 16:15). No matter where we live on this planet, people are separated from God because of sin. We ALL need a Savior, and there’s only ONE. It brings me great joy to share Christ with the lost and lonely. Over the years I’ve learned a great deal while facilitating Bible studies. I’ve found myself on college and university campuses, the beach, the streets, the hospital, the jail and the juvenile facility for incarcerated teens sharing God’s message of love. I also serve as an online missionary with Global Media Outreach. I’ve seen countless lives transformed when people turn away from sin and turn to Jesus. The changes God makes are real and lasting. These are some of my experiences. NOTE: My stories have been altered, removing any and all identifying factors. This includes names and other particulars in order to protect confidentiality and anonymity.

  1. Matthew C. says:

We should definitely show love to muslims, the same as to anyone else and if we are where we are supposed to be, and not somewhere God has told us not to be, then we can certainly trust in God’s protection. I guess the issue is that the most innocent looking muslim, may be the terrorist. They are encouraged to appear normal – not every terrorist wears a balaclava. We certainly need to be sensitive to the Holy Spirit, that is for sure!

The message of Christ is the only thing that has any power to transform the hearts of all people. Regardless of what religion (or no religion) a person professes, until they know the transformation that comes from Jesus they are in a perilous condition. Bless you for reaching out to any and all who need the love of God.

That’s very true, Karen. The ONLY thing that can transform hearts is the gospel message of Christ. Praise God, more and more are experiencing Jesus daily!
