My Uncle Just Died

The tree trimmers had just arrived and began working on our tree, when their boss, whom I’d never before met, wanted to speak with me.

“I just received a phone call that my uncle just died.  He wasn’t even sick. They found him dead in his bed this morning.  He’s very close to my dad who is going through chemotherapy.  This is very bad news. Very bad.  My family will be devastated.”

“I’m sorry.  Was he a Christian?”  He didn’t know.

“What about your dad?”

“I think my dad believes in God.  I used to be a Christian myself, but I sort of drifted away.”

“Then you know that this life we now live is just temporary.  He nodded. Eternity lasts forever. Someday when our bodies die,  our souls will continue to live on.  What we do with this temporary life will determine where we spend eternity.  The big question in this life is: ‘What did you do with Jesus?'”

He nodded in agreement with all I said.  He agreed to wait while I went inside to grab some helpful information.  I brought out a copy of  Would You Like to Know God Personally?  Also, The Jesus Movie in multiple languages including Spanish and some tracts in Spanish to share with his family.  He thanked me repeatedly.

Then he told me that he lives with his girlfriend and their two preschoolers.   He wants to get back with God again.  His girlfriend is interested in learning about God.  In fact, they are planning to attend a Calvary Chapel Church for the first time, this next Sunday.

I said, “I believe God is leading you back to Him. When you decide to truly commit your life to Jesus then it’s important that you turn away from your sin.  It is not God’s will that you live with your girlfriend without marrying her.”  He nodded in agreement.

I suggested he read through the tracts with his girlfriend and his father, then I directed him to the prayer in the tract that would help him recommit his life to Jesus.  He was encouraged and actually excited about sharing the information with them.

My only regret is that I didn’t think to pray with him before he left.  Nevertheless, I do believe he is on his way to serving Jesus Christ with his life; and for this I praise God!

About Kathleen

God delights in working through His people as they submit to Him. Jesus said to go into all the world and preach the good news to everyone (Mark 16:15). No matter where we live on this planet, people are separated from God because of sin. We ALL need a Savior, and there’s only ONE. It brings me great joy to share Christ with the lost and lonely. Over the years I’ve learned a great deal while facilitating Bible studies. I’ve found myself on college and university campuses, the beach, the streets, the hospital, the jail and the juvenile facility for incarcerated teens sharing God’s message of love. I also serve as an online missionary with Global Media Outreach. I’ve seen countless lives transformed when people turn away from sin and turn to Jesus. The changes God makes are real and lasting. These are some of my experiences. NOTE: My stories have been altered, removing any and all identifying factors. Kathleen, considering the mystery of his uncle’s death as well as his openness about living with someone he is not married to, it does appear that he has a genuine openness to living for Christ.

  2. Good job, Kathleen! Thank God for His Holy Spirit leading more souls into His Kingdom.
