When I did the Bible ministry with incarcerated youth, I’d often notice as I was leaving for home, a woman sitting in the waiting room alone. She would be waiting to pick up a son or daughter scheduled to be released. Typically there was nothing to read and she would sit quietly and wait.
I would be friendly and ask, “Are you waiting to pick up someone?”
The typical answer was “Yes.”
“Would you like something to read while you wait?” I’d show her my tracts in both English and Spanish and say, “They’re about Jesus.”
She’d usually pick one or two—no one ever refused!
Recently I had my car serviced and I met a nice man in the waiting room. We chatted for awhile and when my car was ready, I asked him if he’d like something to read while he continued to wait.
“Sure! What do you have?”
I pulled out some tracts.
He glanced at them and said, “Do you love Jesus?”
I smiled, “I do!”
He said, “So do I! I’m a pastor!”
I stayed a little longer and he told me about his church. Then he said something that humbled me: “You’re doing what I, as a pastor, should be doing as well. Thank you for setting an example.”

- ONLY ONE LIFE – Lyrics by C.T. Studd; Music by Kathleen
This life is temporary. This life is short. When this life is over, our bodies will die and become empty shells, but our souls will continue to live forever. Where will the “real you” live? Will you live for all eternity separated from God? Or will you spend eternity in the presence of God in heaven? I have tracts and don’t even use them! What a great message of encouragement to all of us!
Lynn, a Christian doctor shared with me that a patient told him he had found Jesus after a stranger had offered him a tract.
A beautiful story interlaced with Love.
Liana, thank you for your encouragement.
Kathleen, it’s so important that we stay properly focused on the big picture–as you do so well. We are all to be ambassadors for Christ. But as Jesus said during His day, the harvest is plenteous but the laborers are few. We desperately need to be more zealous about sharing Christ with the lost.
I agree, it’s important to keep focused on the big picture. Nevertheless, I find myself missing opportunities and falling short more than I would like.
