The Miracle of the 18-Wheeler

It was dark and we were driving through a large, unfamiliar city—in the days before GPS.  The kids were in the back seat, one was asleep. We were looking for our hotel, but clearly we were lost.

Dan made a turn onto a narrow road and discovered it was a freeway off-ramp—and we were going the wrong way!  Suddenly, before he could put the car in reverse, an 18-wheeler was coming toward us at high speed.

There was no room to move to the right or to the left. We were going to be hit head-on! The monstrous truck was almost on us when I did the only thing I knew to do.

I called on the only name that offered hope. I screamed, “JESUS  HELP!”

INSTANTLY the 18-wheeler was behind us, driving away from us as if we had not been in its path!  There was no slowing down, no swerving, no screeching of brakes, no horn honking.  It simply came up close to us and then suddenly it was behind us—as though it had somehow been lifted above and then set down behind us.

As Dan put the car in reverse, both he and our daughter exclaimed, “What happened? How did that happen?”

I KNEW what had happened!  I was praising and thanking God through tears.

Truly, there is no other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.”  I used to think this verse only referred to eternal salvation. That night I discovered it also refers to the here and now.

Years later my husband, who is not yet a follower of Jesus,  denies it happened.  I too began to have doubts and wondered if perhaps it was something I had dreamed.  Then a few months ago our daughter asked, “Mom, do you remember that time we were traveling and that huge truck was coming toward us and then suddenly it was behind us?  Was that a miracle?”

“You remember?”

“Mom, it’s something I will never forget!”

  • Salvation is found in no-one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.    Acts 4:12
  • Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.   Romans 10:13

About Kathleen

God delights in working through His people as they submit to Him. Jesus said to go into all the world and preach the good news to everyone (Mark 16:15). No matter where we live on this planet, people are separated from God because of sin. We ALL need a Savior, and there’s only ONE. It brings me great joy to share Christ with the lost and lonely. Over the years I’ve learned a great deal while facilitating Bible studies. I’ve found myself on college and university campuses, the beach, the streets, the hospital, the jail and the juvenile facility for incarcerated teens sharing God’s message of love. I also serve as an online missionary with Global Media Outreach. I’ve seen countless lives transformed when people turn away from sin and turn to Jesus. The changes God makes are real and lasting. These are some of my experiences. NOTE: My stories have been altered, removing any and all identifying factors. I think when we get to heaven, we will be surprised at all the times that God stepped into save or rescue us and we never even knew it was Him. Thanks for sharing and reminding us that the miracles of Jesus didn’t stop in the first century!

I too, had a very similar experience on a commute to work…in the fog of early morning, across from March Air Force Base, California. A Miracle in the fog occurred that morning, not believing it was a miracle. Later, a close friend said, he was shaving while looking into the mirror when he was prompted to PRAY for me…right at that moment! He said he often prayed for my long commute when he remembered, but that particular day…”it was a powerful prompting by the Holy Spirit.” Angels were released, in Jesus’ name.
    GREAT TESTIMONY!

That was nothing short of a miracle! God is amazing and (although some still see and disbelieve) still performs miracles today if people watch for them. Thanks for sharing this!
