Baby Number Four

The couple was expecting baby number four.  The ultrasound indicated a girl!  They already had two boys, and a second daughter would round out their family perfectly!

The nursery was decorated in feminine colors and her name,  Ava Elizabeth, was embroidered, framed and hanging on the wall near the crib.

When it was time to deliver, Grandma came to stay with the three older children.  Late that night the expected call came, but the message was unexpected!  “Mother and baby are doing fine…but it’s NOT a girl!  We have a perfect seven-pound boy!”

Early the next morning the kids came running into Grandma’s room. “Is our sister here yet?”

“Yes, the baby is here, but it’s not a girl.  You have a baby brother.”

“What?  Oh No!”  The boys had disappointed frowns. Their sister was fighting back tears.

“Listen closely.  We expected a girl.  We wanted a girl.  But God knows what is best.  God has decided the best thing for this family now is a wonderful baby boy.  God knows what He is doing.  Let’s go to the hospital and see your new brother!”

An hour later they were all smiles as each took a turn sitting on the sofa holding their new brother.  During the drive home the six-year-old said, “Baby Alex doesn’t know anything about Jesus.  We will have to teach him!”

Addendum:  The family DID eventually get their girl.  Her name?  Ava Elizabeth,  of course!

About Kathleen

God delights in working through His people as they submit to Him. Jesus said to go into all the world and preach the good news to everyone (Mark 16:15). No matter where we live on this planet, people are separated from God because of sin. We ALL need a Savior, and there’s only ONE. It brings me great joy to share Christ with the lost and lonely. Over the years I’ve learned a great deal while facilitating Bible studies. I’ve found myself on college and university campuses, the beach, the streets, the hospital, the jail and the juvenile facility for incarcerated teens sharing God’s message of love. I also serve as an online missionary with Global Media Outreach. I’ve seen countless lives transformed when people turn away from sin and turn to Jesus. The changes God makes are real and lasting. These are some of my experiences. NOTE: My stories have been altered, removing any and all identifying factors.
