Porn in the Auto Shop

Yesterday my car was due for an oil change.  I entered the waiting room of the auto shop and discovered the television was blaring what first appeared to be porn!

It was actually an offensive talk show with a guest who was a stripper doing an erotic pole dance punctuated with obscenities.

There were two men sitting opposite me, both focused on their cell phones.  There was a young mother of a small boy and myself.  The mother was telling her son not to look at the screen, which made him want to look all the more.

It only took a moment before I was off to find the manager to either turn it off or change the channel.  He was apologetic and found the boy some cartoons.

The young mother turned to me and whispered,  “Thank you” while the two men opposite continued staring at their phones.

Why didn’t the young mother take action herself?  I don’t know.  I do believe I was more intimidated when I was younger.   But as a grandmother, God has given me boldness–for which I am grateful.

Has this happened to you?  What did you do?

About Kathleen

God delights in working through His people as they submit to Him. Jesus said to go into all the world and preach the good news to everyone (Mark 16:15). No matter where we live on this planet, people are separated from God because of sin. We ALL need a Savior, and there’s only ONE. It brings me great joy to share Christ with the lost and lonely. Over the years I’ve learned a great deal while facilitating Bible studies. I’ve found myself on college and university campuses, the beach, the streets, the hospital, the jail and the juvenile facility for incarcerated teens sharing God’s message of love. I also serve as an online missionary with Global Media Outreach. I’ve seen countless lives transformed when people turn away from sin and turn to Jesus. The changes God makes are real and lasting. These are some of my experiences. NOTE: My stories have been altered, removing any and all identifying factors. We may not know whether that mother or those two men were believers or not. But we can speculate that the mother may have also been intimidated, like you were when younger, or she has been conditioned by either political correctness or the false interpretation of freedom of speech. In regards to the two men, they just seem to be among the many who are just totally desensitised to the immorality of our times. But you know what is more disturbing than that Kathleen? I know of believers who are in the same boat and that is very sad, especially at a time when we need to shine the light of Christ brighter than ever before. Thank you for taking a stand and letting your light shine!

Kathleen, I can’t say I remember being in a similar situation. Most of the businesses here seem to have sports or the news on in their waiting areas. But in a similar situation, I would have been moved to take action as well. We live in a culture where almost anything goes. But we are the light of the world.

Yeah!!!!! Kathleen, you’re a “David” with a slingshot.

Being older and a Grandmother has made me bolder too. How unfortunate that the two men sitting there looking at their phones have not developed sensitivity to right and wrong.
